Custom-made.

I was recently working out with a friend. Before the workout, I was a bit concerned about working out with her because she looks so fit, so in shape, like there is almost no fat on her body. I was concerned and thought that I perhaps wouldn’t be able to keep up with her during the work out. I thought she would be more comfortable and successful with the workouts than I. But to my surprise, I didn’t seem to struggle as much as I thought I would. Even more to my surprise, she seemed to have a tougher time with the exercises than I did. What I realized from this is that we are not all built the same. Every relationship isn’t the same, every child isn’t the same, every job situation isn’t the same. In fact, I was boiling some eggs recently and I noticed that even though they were in the same pot with the same boiling water and for the same length of time, when I took them out of the water, one was more done than the other. And that was because they weren’t identical to begin with. Neither are we… God has something in store for each of His children that we have been uniquely made for, built for, just for us, and a part of our purpose. If God has instructed you to do something, go somewhere, pursue something, don’t doubt Him the way that I doubted going into the workout session with my friend. Things aren’t always as they seem. I saw my friend and saw someone that looked to be in amazing shape. I doubted based on what I saw and what I perceived to be true, but the truth was that my body was better equipped for the specific workouts that we were doing. Not only that, but I had been working with a trainer for a few weeks prior. Some of the workouts that my friend and I did were the exercises that I had completed with my trainer. I was prepared for this, why was I doubting?! Likewise, our experiences and trials are not for naught. They have prepared us for our calling, our journey, and our purpose. My previous training prepared me to endure the repetitions and weights that I lifted. No matter how difficult, challenging or impossible something appears to be, when God tells you to start something, go somewhere, get to work, complete a task, help someone, commit to something, lead a group, join a ministry, volunteer for something, whatever the assignment is, be strong and courageous. Obey His Word and trust His timing. Remember that things aren’t always as they appear and trust that He has made you and equipped you just for this, to serve Him!

In those times when your assignment looks challenging, overwhelming and impossible, remember that you are “custom-made” by The King of kings. Merriam-Webster defines custom-made as “made to individual specifications”. We love things that are custom-made for us and individually designed just for us the way we want and with the materials that we want. Some of us like for our cars to be customized and others like customized jewelry or clothing. For example, some men get custom-made suits. Their measurements are taken and the suit is constructed just right for their height and build. The suit that fits just right for the person for which it was made, may not work at all for the next person. That is what God has done with us. You are custom-made to be mother to your children. You are custom made to be his wife. I am custom made to be her sister. We are custom-made for our individual jobs. We are custom- made for our specific ministries and assignments from God. You are custom-made to fulfill God’s purpose for your life, for His glory and your good! Stop thinking, stop comparing, and trust and obey! Be encouraged!

“Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭18:3-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1:1-9‬ ‭KJV
